The Price of the Stars by Debra Doyle and James D. Macdonald

Published by Tor Books

Reviewed by Leigh Kimmel

Beka loved to pilot starships. She didn't care that this wasn't considered an appropriate passtime to a young woman of her rank and station. So when her father offered her title to his old ship Warhammer, she took it.

However, that gift came with some pretty major strings attached. Her mother had just been assassinated on the Senate floor, and it looks like their old enemies the Mageworlders may be involved. General Metadi wants the killers found, without the political complications of an official investigation.

So Beka stages her own death in the most public way possible and creates a new identity for her search. With the help of the mysterious man known only as the Professor, she eludes an assassin and is on her way across the galaxy.

Meanwhile, her brothers Ari and Owen are finding out the hard way that things are getting very interesting. The Mageworlders may have been beaten once, but they're coming back for a return engagement.
