The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall by Anne McCaffrey
Published by Del Rey Books
Reviewed by Leigh Kimmel
The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall is not a novel, but rather a collection of short stories dealing with the time immediately after Dragonsdawn. One story deals with the desperate flotilla that evacuated Southern Continent, while another deals with the founding of Ruatha Hold, which would later become so important in Pernese history. A third tells of how Benden Weyr was founded, while the final story tells of how some of the original colonists were rescued by a spaceship, whose crew then ordered that Pern be declared abandoned and off-limits forever.
Although this is probably not a book with which to start one's acquaintence with the world of Pern, anyone who has enjoyed the other books will love to read how this one "fills in the blanks" left over by Dragonsdawn
